For all my friends, writing, asking, posting about the upcoming elections in Greece in heavily polarised political and economic circumstances between the extreme right and the extreme left (the center has played itself out)... Heres the majoritys approach, expressed by one of the most revered journalists/analysts in Greece, Nikos Hadzinikolaou ---- Ill simply state by which criteria Ill vote this Sunday: First of all, I absolutely dislike/hate the F****-ing AUSTERITY PACKAGE. And I say so not because Im some believer in fictitious conspiracies, but because I see its direct results/effects. I clearly see that we have clear 1mln, growing into 1,5 million jobless. We have driven the middle class onto an extreme edge. there IS no middle class anymore. Because it is obvious that poverty has spread throughout all classes of the society. Because I see that if before people were saving up by not going out (e.g. for entertainment, dinners, family outings etc.) are now struggling for the most basic things. They cannot afford bread, milk. Their children go to school and faint because of hunger. THIS is not an image of a civilized European country, which somehow is done so, as the reports claim, we remain in the stronghold of the Eurozone. F*** that Eurozone that holds itself together only by the cost of Greek children fainting of hunger at schools in the morning! Because I see hospitals shutting down all around. Because we see people replacing vital medicaments with cheaper alternatives that have no desired effect. Because the human life is now valued as much much less a cost than some abstract ideologies praised by the leading large political parties, who hold this as a success! Therefore, my criteria for my vote is based on the factor of WHAT MESSAGE SHALL GREECE SEND TO THE REST OF EUROPE. THIS is my criteria. Ill vote with the criteria of the final message that the collective vote of Sunday will send to the rest of Europe - Berlin, Paris, Brussels. Hence, Ill vote with the criteria - how on the next day of the elections, Greece shall be able to negotiate everything from the very beginning with all of them and thus create a completely new setup, new balance in the affairs with its lenders, which will allow her to start and dream about an exit from this crises. The legal framework of the elections allows that if the first party has gained 50% of the votes and the second in line has gained 14,5% of the votes, the first one still shall hold 50 additional bonus seats. This formula will decide the synthesis of seats in the Parliament on Sunday evening. And thus, any hopes of the current two leading parties that even if they just gain 30-35% of the votes theyll have a balancing or decision making overpower by joining together and forming a coalition government, are void. And have no doubt, that they know this and have already decided how that coalition is going to be formed. Have no such doubts whatsoever. The least we can do and we shall do is to send a message to the rest of Europe that the citizens of this country no longer accept the violence enforced on them for the past two years, they do not like it, they do not accept it and are sending a strong message! Because these parties keep talking to the EU, to Berlin, to Brussels. But cant they see that those inside do not support them, do not bear them. And this shows that those parties arent really resisting (e.g. the austerity measures), that theyre not negotiating (e;g. instead, theyre accepting EUs terms without any objections whatsoever). I want to talk to our grandfathers/elders now. They are the very columns of our society, the upholders of our family values. Theyre the ones we run to during the difficult, tough times, asking for their advise, their support; to hear some warming words from them, to hear about their experience, so we can move forward. I want to ask you that before going to vote, you speak to your grandchildren. I want you to talk to the 15,16,17,18 year olds, wholl state their hopes/expectations from their future. And then youll go and vote for those hopes to come true. And not on the bases of austerity conditions and debts. - (translated by me) https://youtube/watch…
