For all of our Downtons on Facebook here is a little info: All the Downtons from Newfoundland all have the same grt, grt grandfather Edward Downton. All the Downtons in Hamilton came from Guernsey All the Downtons in Brampton, Ontario and are my third cousins and they are from Newfoundland. The Downtons in BC are mostly from Dorset. The Downtons in Alberta are mostly from Dorset. There is a Downton Creek, Downton Lake and a Downton Mountain in BC named after a George Downton who was a surveyor for the BC government. I have been working on the Downtons since 1972 and I currently have the Downton Family Trees for all the Downtons in Newfoundland, Dorset, Somerset, Hampshire, Wiltshire, Devon, Shropshire, USA, Australia. They are in the form of GED files for current genealogy family-tree programs. However, they are missing the latest generation of Downtons and you can fill in your side of the family if you are interested. Some of you may have seen these old family charts from your fathers or grandparents. The oldest Downtons were in Shropshire about 1250 and there are about four groups in my data base that go back to about 1550. At age 75 I seem to be one of the oldest on this facebook but I keep on going as fifty years in the computer and communications field keeps me alert and the brain active. Dont forget to check out 23andme and do your DNA testing, it is amazing what it reveals about our family. Warning, once you start you will want to find out who is all related in Dorset, Hampshire, Wiltshire and Devon, can be a lot of fun. Take care
