For all of those truly wanting Arizona to become a No Kill state, - TopicsExpress

For all of those truly wanting Arizona to become a No Kill state, please send an email. It takes two seconds to do: **** I am reaching out to animal-lovers that I know. No Kill Maricopa County (NKMC) provided tickets to the film, Redemption, for each member of the Maricopa County Board of Supervisors at no cost. (The Board of Supervisors is the body that ultimately makes all decisions regarding MCACC/euthanasia rules, etc.) I am asking you to either cut, paste, and sign the letter that is attached, or write a few sentences asking board members to please attend the film and the presentation that follows. It is very important they know that Maricopa County taxpayers want them to attend; the objective being for them to learn how other community shelters are saving upwards of 90% of their impounded animals. Below is each Board of Supervisors members email address. If you could share this with other Arizona animal-lovers you know, that would be great. The more emails they receive, the more likely they will attend. *** Heres the form letter to use: Dear Mr. Chairman, Members of the Board, In the last decade and a half, animal shelters in numerous communities have implemented a bold series of programs and services to reduce birthrates, increase adoptions, and keep animals with their responsible caretakers. As a result, they are achieving unprecedented results, saving upwards of 95 percent of all impounded animals in their animal control facilities. These communities share very little demographically. What they do share is leadership at their shelters with a passion for lifesaving and who have comprehensively implemented a key series of programs and services, collectively referred to as the “No Kill Equation.” At one time, those communities also offered little more than killing and excuses: pet overpopulation, blaming the public, a lack of resources. When they stopped blaming and changed their own behavior, the killing stopped. There is still a “public” in these communities, animals are still entering their shelters, and resources are tight. But they are succeeding, where ours is failing. No Kill communities now exist in places as diverse as Arlington, VA, Benzie County, MI, Berkeley, CA, Brookfield, WI, Brown County, IN, Chippewa County, MI, Copper Country, MI, Duluth, MN, Fluvanna County, VA, Grosse Ile, MI, Healdsburg, CA, King George County, VA, Lynchburg, VA, Marquette, MI, Midland County, MI, Montmorency County, MI, Otsego County, MI, Powhatan County, VA, Reno, NV, Rockwall, TX, Seagoville, TX, Tompkins County, NY, Williamsburg, VA, Allegany County, MD, Barrington, RI, Cape May County, NJ, Nevada County, CA, Shelby County, KY, Southampton, NY, Terre Haute, IN, and others. Why not ours? The fundamental lesson from the experiences of these communities is that the choices made by shelter managers are the most significant variables in whether animals live or die. Several communities are more than doubling adoptions and cutting killing by as much as 75 percent — and it isn’t taking them five years or more to do it. They are doing it virtually overnight. National shelter expert Nathan Winograd, Executive Director of the No Kill Advocacy Center, is on a national 30-city tour to premiere his documentary Redemption. The film will be followed by a presentation on achieving No Kill success. Phoenix, Arizona is one of the 30 cities premiering the documentary. No Kill Maricopa County has provided you with tickets to attend this event and I, as a taxpayer, am asking that you do. I want my shelter, Maricopa County Animal Care and Control (MCACC), on the map to No Kill success. I want the needless killings to stop. In our community, it is time for change. It is time to reject the failed philosophies and poor performance of the past. It is time to end the killing at our shelter. We have an unprecedented opportunity for a new beginning. Our citizens are kind, caring, and generous. We love animals. And we deserve an animal shelter that reflects, rather than undermines, our values. Thank you for your time.
