For all of you who dont wear a seat belt when youre driving I just - TopicsExpress

For all of you who dont wear a seat belt when youre driving I just want to give you a quick shout out: youre a selfish douche. I passed someone on 360 today coming home from Mansfield who had been ejected from his/her vehicle and had landed over the median. Their truck was smashed up against the divider facing 180 degrees in the wrong direction and there was a first responder leaning over their still body checking their pulse. I hope that you live to realize how selfish you are without any serious injuries but COME ON! When you dont wear your seat belt it doesnt make you look any cooler and it is definitely does not increase your level of comfort. However, it DOES greatly increase the odds of any accident youre involved in (even minor) being much more severe and often times fatal. Seat belts [have been shown to] reduce serious crash-related injuries and deaths by about 50%! *** Why does this make you a selfish douche bag? Odds are, even if you truly are a scumbag there is someone out there who cares about you and who would be greatly saddened by your passing. Oh yeah, and what about the commuting passerby or perhaps the person you may have been involved in the accident with? Can you imaging the mental duress they would experience having been a part of a fatal accident? Even if you live, the potential cost of the medical bills will probably be MUCH higher for you and your family/friends/government than they would be if you had a few broken ribs or perhaps a received a rash from the seat belt burn. Seriously, before you decide to get behind the wheel of your 2000 lb death machine and text everyone pictures of what you ate for lunch while your kids are screaming in the back, BUCKLE UP. ***National Highway Traffic Safety Administration.
