For all our Maori tauira - I have just been forwarded details from NZNO about a scholarship through the Ministry of Education that is open for applications. The scholarships are worth at least $10k each so definitely well worth applying for! Applications close on 10th October (a week away), so if you want to be in the running you will have to get your application in quick NGĀRIMU VC & 28TH (MĀORI) BATTALION MEMORIAL SCHOLARSHIPS SELECTION CRITERIA: Undergraduate Scholarship · Confirmation of being enrolled at a tertiary institution in 2014 · A verified tertiary academic transcript Manakura Award · Able to describe your role as a leader and achievements within your area of interest · Able to provide evidence of any initiatives of engagement and the contributions being made to promote Māori leadership in your area of interest. SCHOLARSHIPS AVAILABLE: · Three Undergraduate Scholarships: $10,000 per year of full time study, for up to five years · One Manakura Award: $30,000 for one year. The Ngārimu VC and 28th (Māori) Battalion Memorial Scholarship Fund Board are looking for applicants who meet the criteria, are of Māori descent, and possess characteristics that are considered consistent with those of the 28th Māori Battalion. Recipients will be selected in 2013. The Scholarships and Award will be awarded and paid in accordance with milestone periods from 2014 year. Scholarship payments will be pro-rated where recipients complete less than a year of full time enrolled study. In commemoration of the bravery shown by Second Lieutenant Te Moana Nui a Kiwa Ngārimu and the members of the 28th Māori Battalion, these scholarships are designed to financially assist students of Māori descent attending a recognised tertiary institution. The Manakura Award recognises an individual who may not be studying at a tertiary institution, but displays leadership skills in their field of interest. For the first time this year, applicants can apply, or be nominated, for this award. Applications close 5pm, Thursday 10th October 2013.
