No Go. …But YOU are no failure And there’s no-one failing here Because it’s just that Gove wants to Gove…rn And his method is ‘fear’ He can’t be seen to stand side by side Hard working teachers And their precious sense of time See it’s just that Gove wants to Gove...rn He won’t be seen to stand alongside Really committed teachers When raw ambition rules his mind Tomorrow When you grab those 5 or 10 minutes free Between break and lunchtime duties Ordering new subject resources Carrying materials, consoling a child Away from CAF’s, SAT’s, registers and files Marking, Assemblies and Absences Work Experience Experiences Between meetings, photocopying Performance management lists, constant spread sheet analysis Remember…your ideal of the job has become fantasy Because it got in the way of Gove’s drive The ‘Standards Agenda’, the ‘Free School’ hit Each day his little circle spins it wide Spreads ideas about ‘The teachers who are not fit To be in today’s classroom’ And that circle knows nothing Of your daily, linear, time charged struggle The world he sits amidst Is not in ‘the today’ or ‘the tomorrow’ But is the narrow five year world of a politician Rhyming with ‘ambition’ Whatever you do…it’s not going to be enough.
