Along with optimizing your purging protocol, there is something else you can do. The problem is, IF there was food/drug grade of butane, many of these impurities would not be in it to begin with... and that is why, along with inadequate protocols, that this is a problem. But there is a work around... if you are sincere about wanting to remove the poisons in BHO. Go to Matheson Gases (or several of their competitors) and buy the IsoButane 99.995% pure. Being 99.995%(+) pure means that 999,950ppm are isoButane, ergo the other 50(max)ppm are already at or lower than the required maximum levels of 50ppm... before extraction or purging. More over, there is always a certificate of analysis showing exactly was is and isnt in it. (IF there is no certificate - think Carfax- dont buy it, its bogus). Assuming there is nothing outright toxic(in minute qualities) in it, you already pass (especially if you are already using Best Practices). The price is not cheap, but lives hang in the balance, besides, you are using a nice, safe close-looped system to retain 95% of the butane anyway... right?
