For almost 13yrs I was able to call J.W. Holbrook my father-in-law, but he was more to me than just that title. When I became pregnant with his grandchild he guarded me and did his best to keep me well when he could, by making sure my blood sugar was ok. Making sure I ate when and what I should and checking my blood sugar when it was not where it should be. When I became a scout leader he became my teacher and taught me what he already knew about scouts. As I became an employee for the Boy Scouts he encouraged me and taught me even more. Often times he would call not to talk to John but to talk to me and made me feel valued as part of his family. He could be brisk and rough around the edges at times, but that was just part of him. Usually it was pain talking in those times and I knew that. So to love him you loved all those parts. The day I married his son he became my father but also much more than that. I will always have a part of him in my heart and know his love and generosity he gave to me the day I married his son. I wrote this a few days ago and just wanted to share part of the impact my father-in-law had in my life. Over the past few weeks I have had the opportunity to recall lots of memories of this man and the ones I treasure and wish I had appreciated more while he was here are so dear to my heart. We will always have our angels dad. Love and miss you.
