For almost fifty years Wal Richards was a compulsive photographer - TopicsExpress

For almost fifty years Wal Richards was a compulsive photographer of weddings in Maryborough and the surrounding region, and thanks to this acclaimed video (produced by Malcom McKinnon in 2011) residents have reflected on the value of his legacy. People generally accepted Wal as an unusual but likeable character, although at the time many believed his photographs were merely a fantasy. As it turned out he took over 20,000 images, providing the community with a remarkable social history collection! The collection is currently held by the Maryborough-Midlands Historical Society, which is located in the Worsley Cottage Complex. This video features some interesting interviews with Betty Osborn, Lorna Eyers and Ray & Margaret Severino, with Tony Macer writing and performing the catchy Photographs on the Wall. What are your memories of Wal? Leave a comment below and feel free to share this video around :)
