For an interesting evening of film, selected readings, and discussion of the writings and authorship of iconic Swedish writer Stig Dagerman, come out to Scandinavia House on 58 Park Avenue this evening from 6:30-8:30. The program features novelist Siri Hustvedt, Dagermans translator Steven Hartman, PEN Translation Committee Chair Susan Bernofsky and Ann Kjellberg, editor of the literary journal Little Star. The authors daughter, Lo Dagerman, will also introduce a short documentary, Our Need for Consolation by Dan Levy-Dagerman, featuring actor Stellan Skarsgård, based on the classic essay of the same name. The event also effectively marks the book launch of SLEET by Stig Dagerman, a volume of selected stories just out from David R. Godine, translated by Steven Hartman, with a preface by novelist Alice McDermott. The program will be followed by a reception with wine and cheese from 8.30 pm. nybooks/events/tribute-stig-dagerman/
