For anyone following live, Im noticing three things: 1) All the boats that pass the bridge come to a stop. Winds are light and variable and its almost a new race once you get to the bridge. 2) Though they wont win the race, a few cruisers made the call to go way, way left. Right now they are going much faster, though traveling MUCH more distance. If things hold, those boats that took the long way might catch the boats that took the shorter, lighter-wind route. 3) Though Windquest established a huge lead in the racing fleet, Il Mostro is catching up, fast. As of the last check, Windquest is going just over 4 knots, while Il Mostro is going 17 knots (!). The problem for Mostro is that--just like we see near the finish--if they keep sailing up to Windquest, they will get caught in the same light air. Will they do that and be satisfied with pulling even in the lighter breeze, or will they separate from Windquest to try to stay in more breeze? Its riveting stuff, and we have a ton of racing left to do! Winn
