For anyone following the Mark Defriest story: According to - TopicsExpress

For anyone following the Mark Defriest story: According to reports, Mark had a successful parole hearing today, but his case was heard only by a panel and not the full parole commission . While the most the panel can do is reduce his sentence by 60 months, theyre re-hearing his case in front of the full commission to potentially set an effective release date. The re-hearing of his case happens on December 3rd. Defriests lawyer, sister, and filmmaker Gabriel London were all able to speak on his behalf today, an London showed evidence of the support far and wide from those who have viewed the stunning documentary, The Life and Mind of Mark DeFriest. If you havent seen it yet, you MUST. The film is busy racking up awards at film festivals right now, but hopefully it will be available for wider viewing soon. I had the privilege of viewing it at FIU LAW, with the filmmaker himself, two weeks ago. It changed my life, and I promise it will open your eyes. Such incredible minds are working on this cause, and it makes me inspired to become a lawyer. If you guys are as invested in seeing this play out as I am, you can write a letter or short note to the Offender Review Board and let them know you support Defriest, justice, and a reconsideration of mental illness in our criminal justice system. Heres the address: [email protected] Name: Mark Defriest Parole Hearing Date: 12/3/14 Inmate number: 073061 In the end, we will remember not the words of our enemies, but the silence of our friends. -Martin Luther King Jr. #defriest youtu.be/kLjcots-Zy4
