For anyone interested, here is a link of the presentations last night to the CIty Council on the theft of public property to allow the Asheville Art Museum SELL naming rights to public land for $1,500,000. Note, only one person spoke in favor.... One of the AAM Board members. Of particular interest is the STELLAR performance by former Downtown Development Director Leslie Anderson, who was the vision and energy behind the revival of Downtown in the 80s and 90s. I have never known anyone with more knowledge of, nor passion for Asheville than her. She appears in the video at around the 24:30 mark. Perhaps most stunning is that almost EVERY member of Council spoke to their frustration with how this came to them, and how they felt backed into a corner over it, and that they had NOT FOLLOWED THEIR OWN PROCESS in this matter, yet to a person voted to approve it. Cowardice in action, is my take. If you are keeping score, thats $2,000,000 in a tax increase earmarked for the AAM last year. Now $1,500,000 more in the form of the theft of public property to allow a private entity to sell naming rights. GREAT JOB, Jerry RIce for taping this. Watch this, and weep.....
