For anyone interested in attending this workshop tomorrow: The Oregon Water Resources Department, in conjunction with the Northeast Oregon Water Association, will host a water development workshop Thursday, June 19. The event will run from 9-11:30 a.m. at the Port of Morrow Riverfront Center, 2 Marine Drive in Boardman. It is open to the public, and will focus on place-based water development efforts outlined in the states Integrated Water Resources Strategy. In August 2012, the Water Resources Commission adopted Oregons first Integrated Water Resources Strategy, containing 40 recommended actions — one of which is aimed at encouraging place-based approaches to water resources planning. The Department recently released a discussion paper that examines regional water planning approaches from three western states: California, Texas and Washington. It highlights key elements that could inform Oregons approach to place-based, integrated water resources planning. NOWA invited staff from the Water Resources Department to provide an overview of this initiative, and gather input from local water users. The ultimate goal is to meet current and future water needs, both in and out of stream, including water quantity, quality and ecosystem needs. The discussion paper and a workshop agenda are available on the NOWA website, northeastoregonwater.org, under news and information. For more information or to RSVP, contact Anna Aylett at 541-281-4377 or [email protected].
