For anyone looking for ideas on how to help your neighbors during the holiday season...here are some ideas. Organize a heat/fuel drive...: The winter season is upon us and with your help Social Services can help keep your neighbors warm. - collect money from friends and neighbors. See if a parent, company, church, team will match contributions. - recycled water bottles go a long way when you add up all the nickels. Organize a food drive... - Gift Cards are always needed. Thes allow recipients to purchase fresh produce, meat, eggs and milk. These are things we cant carry at the pantry. - Make it specific like breakfast items, make a meal (i.e. taco shells, canned beef/chicken, taco seasoning, chili) - Allergy free foods are always needed. - Do a toiletries drive - Use Social media to do a drive...tell friends what you are collecting and where you will be for a drop off or pickup point. - Get friends and neighbors to sponsor/match your drive...for every can/item that I collect you will sponsor $1, .50, .25 or if I reach my goal of 100 items, you will sponsor...$# - Build something out of food cans and leave it somewhere where people will notice. - Ask your school/neighbors if they can set aside their recyclable water bottles for you, one week/one month and spend an hour cashing them in.
