For anyone planning to come to Dr. Guy McPhersons presentation - TopicsExpress

For anyone planning to come to Dr. Guy McPhersons presentation tomorrow, please keep in mind that this is a very serious discussion about climate change. We talk about the possibility of extinction because of abrupt climate change. I would suggest anyone coming to please read my recent article where I interviewed Dr. McPherson for the San Francisco Examiner as part of a series of interviews that I did on methane. Here: examiner/article/climate-change-and-the-methane-crisis-an-interview-with-dr-guy-mcpherson Methane is a poorly understood subject and many people do not understand the implications of methane being released into the atmosphere. To put this into perspective, an outpouring of methane is what caused the dinosaurs to go extinct. As many of you know, I have written about climate change for 10 years, 6 of those years at the Examiner. For many years I have been trying to educate readers about the dangers of climate change - and what could happen if we did nothing to seriously address it. In my quest for truth as a writer I have always vowed to tell the good, the bad, and the ugly, even if that truth might be painful. To my greatest dismay, the things that I feared could happen have come to pass (record-breaking disasters, ocean acidification, methane release, large animal die-offs, melting Arctic) - and as I have watched these things unravel I have come to the startling realization that not only are those things happening but they are occurring startlingly fast (in terms of geologic time). On a positive and sometimes hopeful note, there have been a few climate victories in the last year, but those victories will not stop natural earth processes from happening now, things which are now beyond our control (feed-back processes) One thing I want to note here that something that has greatly saddened me over the years is to see many scientists, professors and climate educators work vilified by very questionable people on the webosphere. Dr. Michael E. Mann, Professor McPherson, Dr. Natalia Shakhova and esteemed Professor Wadhams come to mind as I say this. I have watched and been sickened by special interest groups who have spent billions of dollars in an effort to confuse the science of climate change over the course of these 10 years. If for any reason you question this please read this report: examiner/article/the-1-billion-dollar-climate-change-cover-up-crimes-against-humanity And PLEASE remember whenever you read something negative about any of these people I have mentioned, do your homework and see who is really behind that person....you would surprised at many well funded groups use bloggers to further their own special interests... In my mind, this vilification and dis-info campaign is what has caused the great delay in responding to the issue of climate change and our use of fossil fuels. And I think you know the very powerful special interest groups I am talking about....with the power to not only influence the mainstream media but the powerful money to influence policy-makers.... So here we are now playing with a wild deck of cards. Humans have never lived during such a time as this - this time of climate disruption and abrupt climate change - so we have no idea of how this is going to play out...but what we can say with certainty is that climate change is now causing world-wide havoc, and that is with a temperature rise globally of less than 1 degree! And now we are sailing into a predicted 2 degree rise with 6 degrees expected. Since 150-200 species a day are now going extinct on our watch (also verified), it would be absurd to think that we (humans) are going to be consequence free. And this is what Dr. McPherson talks about, so if that makes you uncomfortable, please think hard about this whether this presentation is for you.
