For anyone whos following, Saffys been to the vet and been diagnosed with hypertension, prolly caused by her hyperthyroidism. Laura McLellan go to the top of the class. Heart rate and BP pretty high, even allowing for stress over being at the vet. Her BP spiked and has caused her retina to detatch, but luckily Ive got her there early enough and her retina is still alive at present. The hope is that as her BP drops, some of the retina might reattach and she might regain a little bit of useful sight. Shes on pills for BP at the moment, but Im taking her back in for a blood test on Friday to check her thyroid and kidney function. Although shes maintaining a healthy weight, its likely well have to increase the thyroid medication, which should hopefully keep her BP under control as well. For her own part, Saffy seems happy in herself, is eating well and keeping herself groomed. Shes finding her way around inside and out very well considering. Shes obviously a lot more needy for physical contact, but thats OK because Im able to be here for her a lot of the time. Im under no illusions, this is palliative care at best and its getting pretty expensive, but everybody knows going in that pets are a huge responsibility. Were committed to helping her enjoy the final part of her life for as long as she wants to stick around, weve got a bit saved - its only money, right? :) x
