For both of my sons, I was able to be in the delivery room. Back - TopicsExpress

For both of my sons, I was able to be in the delivery room. Back then (as if in the dark ages) it was not a given for the father to be in there when the child was born. This was something that took classes and doctor’s approval before this happened. It was almost like graduating from school. However, both shared the surprise that came in the end whether it was a boy or a girl. The gender of our baby was only a guess by the doctor based on experience and/or the position of the baby in the womb. Were they scientific results? I think not, but that was part of the excitement. The doctor guessed our last child to be a girl. He wrote his proclamation on the mother’s chart for a reminder. When the big day came, we all cheered and cried in celebrating for a healthy baby BOY. We went to the first appointment; the doctor came into the examining room and said, “How is she doing today?” This created a stunned look of wonder. I am not certain if he was joking or serious, but at that time, it was a matter of making a good old fashion mistake. Later, we laughed until tears came to our eyes. It was not as if we based the room decoration, clothes, and toys around his guess. With a boy and a girl at home, it was just a matter of which bedroom the newest addition would use. Mistakes are a human characteristic. Some people would refute this, but we ALL make them. It is admitting that we made one that makes for a good person. It is also the willingness to make more when greatness is born. Enjoy today as much as you can. I’m thinking of doing a roast for dinner on the back deck without the grill like a natural slow cooker. I’ll let you know when dinner is.
