For democracy to work, everyone must agree to accept the results - TopicsExpress

For democracy to work, everyone must agree to accept the results of freely held election. The election must be free and fair. The people and parties who have lost power, or those who failed to gain it, must be willing to accept defeat. If the loser refuses to accept the winner, the elections legitimacy is diminished and the political system may be marked by conflict and instability. A key test for a democracy is the successful and peaceful transfer of power from one party to another. Indeed, this is a continuous test for any democracy. There are only 50 seats to be won. All candidates will not win a seat to parliament. Some will make it to parliament and some will not. But we all can be winners if we put the interest of our country ahead of our self interest. Winning this election is winning democracy for our people. Those who will get elected must ensure they honor the sacrifice of those who cannot make it to parliament and work in the interest of Fiji and its people. After elections there will be no for or against. We must unite as a country and move forward. We must take care of each other!
