For everybody who read the post yesterday about the 2 greyhounds who had a fight while on a transport run, here is the update Cherry Reed I have taken the liberty of updating this thread with the latest update from ALUK, Im sure the team wont mindAnimallifelineuk Rescueorganisation UPDATE Weve just had some extremely sad news. The vets looking after Tip and Monty (the two greyhounds who were rushed to the vets today) have found that Tip has an serious underlying problem that is likely to have triggered his scrap with Monty. X-rays have shown severe fractures and disintegration of the bone in this jaw, highly likely to be caused by a painful, malignant tumour. It is not an injury that has occurred today. Poor Tips jaw is in such a state there isnt much that anyone, even a skilled orthopedic surgeon, can really do to fix it. We have spoken at length with the vets, sought second and third opinions, and there is no doubt that there is no possible positive outcome for Tip. Even with highly specialised surgery he would be facing the rest of his life being drip-fed, in agony, and, again, the likelihood is that, looking at the radiographs, the advanced stage of the jaw injury and decay, and all other evidence, this has been caused by an aggressive tumour which would mean his lifespan would be severely limited. As a result, just a few minutes ago, the vets really have had no option but to send Tip to sleep peacefully and free from pain. We, and everyone involved in helping to try to save Tip and Monty, are absolutely devastated. Anyone who knows any of the Animal Lifeline UK team will know just how dedicated everyone is to saving every animal we can in need of help. However, no animal deserves to suffer and the level of suffering would have been so high for poor Tip it would have been cruel not to let him slip away peacefully whilst still under general anaesthetic.
