For everybody whos getting upset at the ALSA and calling them frauds because only 27% of the funds goes to research: realize that another 32% goes to “public and professional education” and another 19% to “patient and community services to help educate people on how to deal with ALS once theyve been diagnosed, teach people on what ALS is, what it does, and to help those who need it with ALS and their families. 79% of the total funds are split amongst research, education the public and professionals, and helping the community and patients through varying programs. The remaining 21% is split this way: 14% goes to fundraising and only 7%, I repeat SEVEN PERCENT, goes towards paying the administrators of the company, whom all actually have comparable salaries when put against other non-profit organizations such as MSAA and KOMEN. So no, the ALSA is not a bunch of frauds. The mission statement reads as follows: “The mission of The ALS Association is to lead the fight to treat and cure ALS through global research and nationwide advocacy, while also empowering people with Lou Gehrig’s Disease and their families to live fuller lives by providing them with compassionate care and support.” They arent JUST doing research to find a cure, they are trying to assist those who need it as well and bring forward education and awareness on how terrible this disease truly is.
