For everyone to know: Just this morning, a certain Rose Antonio - TopicsExpress

For everyone to know: Just this morning, a certain Rose Antonio sent a text message to my mum, representing herself to be one of the prosecutors of Makati, informing my mum that she has a pending Civil and Criminal case of Estafa under Art. 315. ATTN: ARLENE DE JESUS. This is Rose Antonio from Prosecutor of Makati. This aim to inform you that you have a pending Civil and Criminal Complaint for violation of Article 315, also known as Estafa. This case will be coordinated within 24 hrs to the Company where you are presently connected, and also coordinate this to the nearest PNP STATION in your place, and to the PJ PUBLICATION. This warrant may cause for being blacklisted in NBI. Do call (02) 774-0562 to withdraw case. When my mum forwarded this message, aside from the wrong grammar and poor construction of the message, I started to doubt why would my mum be asked to call to withdraw the case if it was filed against her? Plus the fact that there is no such thing as electronic warrant, summons, or whatever legal processes. Courts use papers! Just to clarify, I called the number indicated and as expected, the woman right away asked: Kanino po nakaattention yung text? There. She was expecting the call. I hung up the phone. Surprisingly, the woman called me back -- caller id. Why?! Then I called DOJ Prosecutors Office to ask if theres a certain Prosecutor Rose Antonio and inquired about the text message. THERE IS NO SUCH PROSECUTOR AND THE TEXT IS A SCAM. If a similar text would be sent to a person with no idea about anything like this and would be harassed to withdraw the case and settle, a lot of money may be extorted! Just please be mindful. Grabe lang mga scammers!!
