For everyone who wanted to see the final images of the completed wall. Thankyou Fran for the images! I wanted to focus on happiness. Once we decide to be happy - nothing else matters. The mural has the landscape of Galicia. It has the green and the sea. In it I painted all the modes of travel I used to travel & discover how the landscape changes. The green changes to red on the way to Madrid. But I didnt just want to paint what we see. I wanted to paint what we feel too. There are fish in the sea that are taxis, they bring people to the shore from the deep sea. These fish only pick up the passengers towards happiness when the passengers decide and make a decision to change their life. I was also looking for people to tell me their memories associated with happiness, I found a few that fit the wall. Juan: Since I was a child I liked Galician bagpipes. In the festivities of San Juan, I heard the sound of bagpipes on the street in the morning and went to the window for watching the pipers. Also listening to cassettes pipers. I do not know why, but I was always attracted to the bagpipes. When I was 16, a friend taught me to play a little (actually only taught me how to place my fingers on the “punteiro”). From there I learned by myself, listening to records, and also learning from other older pipers. Poonam: Playing with my friends in our small winding brick street that connected all houses, late into the evening, and learning our traditional games, songs and dances. The fireplaces were put in the streets too, till the fire burnt bright in. Them. Before that the wood and coal warm smell as a background for us..forging social bonds.. Shumita: A fond memory of me riding a double decker red bus in bombay..looking out at the people and places..free to imagine....the bus had a bell inside ..the rope was strung all along the roof..the conductor in his khakhi uniform with a green leather thaila could pull it from anywhere along the aisle... girls in mini skirts..women in burqas sat side by side... Renu: Travelling to Shimla every year duting my chilhood was the highlight of the year... once some of us had to travel by train : )) the journey by the metre gauge train from Kalka to Shimla was amazing and enchanting......the snow covered mountains above the green hills.... dotted with quaint houses. The toy like stations nestling under hilks or rocks....An unforgettable experience : ) Iria: When Solis was a child playing in the lot we were animals of the wood. All children choose one. I was always the squirrel , Fran and Bertha were deer and fox . We ppent the day at the foot of a majestic chestnut called Pepe who heard our conversations and even spoke with us. I got a taste of suburbia in Carballo. Here at the end of Iberia, near the sea. I felt the same way I feel in the Preet Nagar where I grew up. Old people relaxing with dear friends, married people bringing up their kids and young people waiting to get out, join the world. All at different points of their lives, a mix of hope and nostagia.
