For fans of this project who may be wondering about why one would use a Kickstarter campaign to raise funds for a project, I wanted to give a little explanation. Kickstarter is a website and platform that allows filmmakers, artists, and other creative types to raise money to complete projects that they might not otherwise be able to do. Its a way of building a community of support to get things done for people who may not have access to vast personal funds or wealthy private investors. Its also a way of connecting with people who are interested in the topic or the work, and helping them feel a part of the process of getting things accomplished. Its not free money - people who start campaigns are expected to deliver on their promises to their contributors. In addition, both the Kickstarter organization and Amazon take a fee off of the total amount you raise for your campaign for offering the platform for you to use, so you have to budget for that to make sure you still end up with what you need to complete the work. Just wanted to share that explanation for those of you who might not be familiar with the Kickstarter website.
