For formed LTU students :)) Our transformation: what this means for students University Messages Sent: Wednesday, June 25, 2014 4:40 PM Dear students, It is important we update you on the transformation we are undertaking at La Trobe. We are building on our 50-year history and becoming an even better place to study and learn. Universities are operating in a tough and rapidly changing education environment and we have to look at every aspect of our business, just like other organisations do, to ensure we are relevant, viable, and cost effective; for you, future students and our staff. We are making many of these changes to allow us to reinvest in areas so we can provide you with the best possible quality student experience and education. We announced earlier this year our plans for restructuring our current five Faculties to form two Colleges – the College of Arts, Social Sciences and Commerce and the College of Science, Health and Engineering. I’m writing now to advise on the impact for you and the next stage of the project: staff consultation. What this means for you Your current degree will continue when the five Faculties merge into two Colleges. You will be able to complete your studies in subjects and courses in which you are currently enrolled – this applies to all students, irrespective of your campus. Staff consultation After months of planning and preparation we are now consulting with staff on changes we are proposing within the faculties and administrative areas to transition to this new College model as these changes will have an impact on some positions. On Monday we briefed the La Trobe Student Union on our plans and staff consultation timetable. The proposed changes are not final. Consulting with our staff means they have the opportunity to provide input and feedback into our proposed changes, which may shape the final outcome. This process is expected to be completed by the end of July 2014. We have put together a number of FAQs online to assist with any questions or concerns you may have – these go into detail and answer questions about courses and subjects, support services, staff consultation process and timing. I encourage you to visit this website so you can understand more about how any changes may affect you. Professor John Dewar Vice-Chancellor
