For he who was called in the Lord as a slave is a freedman of the Lord. Likewise he who was free when called is a slave of Christ. (1 Corinthians 7:22) Each of us was a slave to the enemy when we were called by the Lord. We were freed from his bondage by Jesus’ death and resurrection. At he same time, we were also free when we were called, because, consciously or unconsciously, we chose the life we were leading. When we began to understand the amount of suffering our Lord experienced as He lived a poor, humble life and especially the suffering He endured as He suffered Crucifixion, we began to reject the life we previously lived because we saw the folly of it all. We became His slaves in the sense that we voluntarily chose to conform our will to His. Celebrate your freedom always remembering Whose slave you are.
