For his anger endureth but a moment; in his favour is life; Weeping may endure for a night, but joy cometh in the morning. - Psalm 30:5 Someday this too, will be a pleasure to recall ! When I was about 12 years old, I came across that verse and copied down Weeping may endure for a night, but joy cometh in the morning. Psalm 30:5b - and taped it to my desk drawer. Many years later that same desk was loaded onto a moving truck, headed for our new home - high on a hill, with no yard, less maintenance and fewer rooms. We were simplifying. When the truck pulled up to our new home, the driver walked slowly into the empty kitchen hat in hands and said, Mrs. Kidd, I have some bad news. We didnt know about the hill when we packed the truck...and Im afraid the load shifted, he looked like he was going to cry.... We walked out to the truck as one of the crew struggled with its back door and as the door slid open, I peered inside. It was as if someone had taken all our furniture, housewares, books and clothes and put them in the spin cycle of a huge dryer. There were boxes filed with bits of broken glass, legs were separated from tables, bureau drawers were scattered about. I was holding back hysteria as I returned to the house and began telling the men where to put the furniture and in came my childhood desk. I gently pulled open the top drawer and there was that same saying taped inside. Of course, I thought, we wanted to simplify and we just got a little extra help. Later that evening, the owner of the moving company appeared, a grim, expression on his face. Im sure he anticipated a lawsuit. But my husband and I had agreed. The move was a new beginning. Everythings fine, I said. Father give me the gift of perspective so I can face setbacks with good humor. -----Pam Kidd
