“For if, by the trespass of the one man, death reigned through that one man, how much more will those who receive God’s abundant provision of grace and of the gift of righteousness reign in life through the one man, Jesus Christ!” (Romans 5:17). When Adam sinned he brought sin and death to everyone. One man’s trespass brought death to the entire human race. God has an answer for that, and it is in the person of His Son, Jesus Christ. There is no way to overestimate what Jesus has done for us. Paul described it as God’s abundant provision of grace and the gift of righteousness. We were born under condemnation because of sin, but Jesus came and, because of God’s amazing grace, gave us the gift of righteousness. That is almost too much for our minds to grasp. Not only that, He enables us to reign in life through Jesus Christ. Circumstances may change from day to day but one thing remains constant. We can reign in life because Jesus triumphed over death for us. Sometimes we may feel that events overwhelm us. We may feel that we are at the mercy of the crazy world we live in. But we are not! Because we have received God’s abundant provision of grace by faith, and because we have been given the gift of righteousness, when all the smoke has cleared and the dust has settled, we will stand triumphant and strong. Death doesn’t triumph over us, problems don’t overwhelm us and circumstances don’t rule our attitudes. We reign in life through the one Man, Jesus Christ.
