For immediate release Subject: Osborne to receive Civitan Citizen of the Year Award Date: September 17, 2013 Contact: Duane Chattin, 887-6397 Civitan Club to honor Osborne VINCENNES, In – The Vincennes Civitan Club will present its “Citizen of the Year” award to Jim Osborne at a luncheon on Thursday, September 26, 12 noon (EDT), at Vincennes University’s Beckes Student Union. Tickets are $15 and the public is invited. “Jim Osborne is a lifelong, extremely dedicated community volunteer who has contributed greatly to our community and our state. His good citizenship is exemplified through his service to our court system, and his stewardship of the Indiana Military Museum – a true jewel of our community,” said Jill Williams, president of the Vincennes Civitan Club. The Citizen of the Year award recognizes individuals who promote good citizenship through outstanding voluntary service to their community. Lane is the 53rd recipient of the award since it was first presented to the late Isaac K. Beckes in 1954. The most recent recipients of the award include LaDonna Lane,Georgiann Leonard, Dale Phillips, Nancy Carie, Dr. Alan Stewart, Bernard Niehaus, Char Hendrix, Corinna Vonderwell, James Gislason, and Tony Burkhart. Osborne, a lifelong resident of Vincennes, graduated from Lincoln High School in 1963 and Vincennes University in 1965, where he was senior class president. He received a B.S. degree focused on history and government from Indiana State University in 1967. He then taught at Lincoln High School for four years before studying law at Indiana University School of Law, where he graduated in 1974 with a J.D. degree. In 1983, he graduated from the Indiana Judicial College. He is married to the former Linda von der Lieth of Vincennes, and has one daughter, Rachel Elizabeth. A member of the Knox County Bar Association and the Indiana Judges Association, Osborne’s community service includes Kiwanis, where he is a past president; Salvation Army Board member; the Vincennes University Foundation Board, and past president of the Vincennes University Alumni Association. He also serves the Old Northwest Corporation as vice-president and is also an Advisory Board member of the Red Skelton Museum Foundation. He served 15 years on the board of the Indiana Judicial Conference and has served as a Major in the Indiana National Guard Reserve since 1996. Osborne has been an avid military collector and historian all his life, and his interest in military history has taken him around the world visiting museums, battle sites and war monuments while conducting interviews with veterans and notables from various nations. He has written articles for several military history publications and has been interviewed on numerous telecasts on the state and national level including “CBS America Tonight”, “P.M. Magazine”, and “Good Morning America.”
