For inquiring minds who want to know: This is how the pop songs for the game were chosen, to narrow the list down to 32 to get the ball rolling. The jukebox well be renting has hundreds of songs, but they were missing quite a few good ones. I included a few that wont be in the jukebox, but not too many. I put the songs in chronological order, with eight from each of our four years at MHR. To keep my personal bias out of it, I referred to the Billboard lists of number one hits each year. Some years had lots of great songs. Others, not so much. Songs that were released toward the end of a year didnt always make the top of the Billboard list in either the year they came out or the next year. I also tried not to stack songs that I felt would be strong contenders up against one another in round one. Thats the same way the basketball tournament brackets are created. Its all in fun, but I hope well wind up with finalists that everyone feels are good choices. PEACE OFFERING TO THOSE WHO ARE GRUMPY ABOUT THE LIST: If you play the game and vote using the original list, but your favorite song is NOT on it: Put your song choice up for a vote on our class Facebook group page. It must have been released during our four years at MHR. The song(s) that is not on the list that gets the most votes on FB will be compared to the song(s) moving on to the Sweet Sixteen that had the least votes. If the Facebook song has more legs, I’ll substitute that one for the weaker one in the original brackets. This means you need to decide now what single song you want. Be aware that it may not be in the Jukebox we’re renting, but that’s OK by me. In the case of ties, I’ll wing it. I hope this makes everyone happy. Or at least, less grumpy.
