For it is time for judgment to begin with the household of God; and if it begins with us first, what will be the outcome for those who do not obey the gospel of God? 1 Peter 4:17. It is said that all must face judgement. As believers, we know that our judgement is mercy and grace through Jesus Christ. With this great un-merited gift freely given, why do more people not understand and accept it? Are their hearts so hardened that they cannot allow God’s love and mercy to penetrate, or have they hardened their hearts because of ignorance and a focus on worldly matters. Could it be that they have hardened their hearts due to something that they have seen or experienced associated with the church? The last option is that no one has taken the time to soften their hearts. A heart is softened by love and mercy, not by constant preaching and rebuking. We, as the church, have had a history of preaching instead of loving. Don’t get me wrong! We need to preach the good news, but we also need to live the good news. Remember, actions speak louder than words. If words have hardened hearts, there is only one way that we can help to soften them. How will you preach the Gospel in the coming new year?
