For large dog owners, how do you secure/safely transport your dog - TopicsExpress

For large dog owners, how do you secure/safely transport your dog in your vehicles? Since the 2013 Center for Pet Safety study found a 100% failure rate in harnesses tested (centerforpetsafety.org/research/), the only recommended car safety harnesses seem to be the ClickIt Utility Safety Harness and the Kurgo Enhanced Strength Tru-Fit Harnesses models 3055 and 3085. However, they are only tested/certified for dogs under 85 lbs. My dog is 110 lbs. As a Kurgo customer service rep wrote me, Unfortunately, we do not make a harness that has passed crash testing for a dog over 85 pounds. We arent aware of any other product on the market that has passed for that size of dog. The CPS studies were also done at 30 mph only. I do a lot of highway driving to hiking venues, and while I slow down with my dog onboard, I definitely drive faster than 30 mph. Given this, Im considering crating my dog and securing the crate with climbing rope or paracords to the vehicle tethers. Greatly appreciate other recommendations for car safety, and apologies if this has already been discussed...
