For many, the Village Building Convergence - Portland 14 conversation on Cultural Humility by Indigenous speakers - Shilo; Karly; Judy BlueHorse and Kevin Thomas was deeply moving. That was only a continuation of VBCs commitment to community empowerment and resilience. I, Ridhi DCruz, as one of the core organizers who brought this conversation to the VBC received almost equal part gratitude and critique for helping oganizing this panel. At first, I was overwhelmed with fielding the flurry of conversations this one talk set in motion. But soon I realized that I had always known and hoped that it would stir something within us. And that it sure did. :) For me, it signalled the relevance and willingness for our community to begin to collectively grapple with these deep wounds. And we have a long way to go but I am so very excited to be walking this path with so many amazing creatures as my peer-mentors! For some, the conversation on Cultural Appropriation is a familiar but unwelcome lived experience at its mildest. For some, topics like these sow the seeds of divisiveness within our human culture. For someone like, this is the bread and butter, or rather the dal and rice of cultural transformation that nourishes my work with groups like The City Repair Project. Take a look at this resource if you feel intrigued to join/deepen the courageous conversation on colonialism and inequity that colors our worldviews, our actions and our experiences today. If you havent thought about these issues deeply maybe you will grieve. If you have maybe you will feel empowered. Hopefully it will continue to stir and steer you towards empowered service. Whatever the outcome, I wish us all love as we re-place, re-member and re-generate ourselves, the people and places we call home, the people and places we visit.Thank you to the wonderful people who put so much love, hardship, struggle and all forms of power into making this resource.
