For many years Hollywood has had rules for would-be actors. 1. You must be able to act. 2. You have to have a very good speaking voice. And 3. You must have a name that people could easily remember. Cary Grant, John Wayne, Marilyn Monroe, Whoopi Goldberg, Meg Ryan, Michael Keaton and many other had name-changes. Arnold Schwarzenegger broke all three rules. He could hardly act, his accent was barely understandable, and few could pronounce (let alone remember) his name. But Arnold had the goods. He made the average body-builder of that time look like Barney Fife on a diet. There are also rules for authors. One of them is to start a book with something that captures the reader’s interest, so much so that he (or she) can’t put it down. The New Testament breaks that rule. It begins with genealogies—a long list of names that few can pronounce. However, it has the goods. It tells lost, dying, and hopeless humanity how to find everlasting life. Read it. Believe it. Experience it by typing AMEN
