For many years I have found the Kinzie Street bridge to be of interest, not really knowing much about it until Patrick McBriartys article was presented on the Forgotten Chicago website on September 3, 2013. Very surprised how busy this bridge used to be and how critical it was to get passengers and freight in and out of downtown Chicago. Although no longer in use since 2001 it currently stands as another unique monument to Chicagos history. Even today some of the original rail exists East of the bridge, going under the Merchandise Mart, then under the LaSalle Street overpass. I would encourage reading the Railroads and Chicago Swing Bridges article to get a deeper understanding of history behind this bridge.
