For many years I never really considered myself a feminist. Dont get me wrong, I believe that women should have equal rights to men in all realms, but what I did not agree with is feminists who wanted equal rights and then to also receive special treatment. I never believed that men had it all and could do what they want, because in many ways I felt they could be wronged as well. They say men cant be raped: lies. They say men dont get abused: lies. All you hear is, Man up. So why stand up for all women and their rights, and ignore those things that are unequal for men? Then, I saw this speech. Emma Watson has articulated what Ive believed for a long time and not been able to articulate myself. Its not about more for women, its about more for GENDER. Equal means EQUAL. Women have come a long way to gain many rights that they should have, and there is still more to be done.
