For me, as Lilys mom, it is the smallest things that matter the most. Like when she first learned to give us kisses, open mouthed and full of slobber. The very best kisses in the world. Everyday, after school, Lily gets a bath and a massage with baby lotion. I then dress her in her pjs, that zip up the back. Today, for the very first time, as I tapped her right arm and told her we were going to put it in the sleeve, she didnt fight me. She didnt fight me when I tapped the left arm and told her it was this arms turn. She laid down for me to put her legs in and didnt kick me once. Then, the most amazing thing happened. Instead of me picking her up and flipping her over onto her stomach, so I could zip up the back zipper, she rolled herself over, laid there as still as Ive ever seen her and let me zip her up. When I was finished, I told her, All done, and she rolled over onto her back, crossed her legs and put her arms behind her head, as we all know she likes to do. I sat there for a minute just looking at her and she looked right back at me. Its the little things that make me proud and make me realize, over and over, that were doing things right, even if it takes us a while.
