For me, many holidays are times for reflection. An assessment of where things were, and where they are now, and an acknowledgement to God for His provision and protection between the two points. Often, people are enamored with what God provided and rarely take time to contemplate that a lot of what was provided was protection - especially in those areas we didnt see at the time but in hind-sight see very clearly. Im retired from a job that at one time people of my race werent permitted to engage in; however, through efforts of others in this particular arena I was able to enjoy a 25 year career and work with some exceptional people. I have my Jackie Robinsons in the PSP like Ben Brooks, Ronald Sharpe, Virginia Smith, Hop Hawthorne Conley and others that paved the way for me and others like me, and also the Branch Rickies like Glenn Walp Walp, Paul Mendofik, Jake Crider and others, so on this day of honoring MLK Jr. and all he did, I want to thank the Lord for those He used to bless and protect me and allowed me to have a rich and rewarding life and career that without their presence or His help, would not have come to pass. There is much work still to be done as the PSP is becoming less and less diverse so the dream in this venue is not fully realized but as the old Curtis Mayfield song goes, we gotta keep on pushing.
