For me prayer is in one aspect a time of transformation. As I wait in the presence of the Lord and meditate on the Scriptures and the things of this life, the Father shows me how I should live in response to His Word. This transformation can only occur as we spend time with Him. Christianity is not mere religion; it is a relationship, and like all relationships, it grows stronger only as we invest time in it. I read the first six chapters of Luke this morning. Jesus asks a very poignant question, “Why do you call Me, ‘Lord, Lord,’ and do not do what I say?” Luke 6:46. When I arrived for basic training at Fort Jackson, South Carolina, my Drill Sergeant told us, “Talk is cheap.” It was not the first time I had heard the statement, but it was the first time it made an impression on me. That is what Jesus is saying hear about living the surrendered life, “Talk is cheap.”
