For me, this past week was one in which a lot was choked into. September 11 was one of remembrance, especially in recalling the events of 9/11 of which I had a part of, especially returning from a military mission in Kuwait and upon returning to the USA, happened to be in the same air space as was one of the hijacked aircrafts moments before it hit the Pentagon. My prayers go out to the families who lost loved ones on that fateful day. That day, I will always remember. However, this week I also had the great experience of attending and successfully completing an Active Shooter training class (Sept 11 and 12) hosted by the Kilgore Police Department and the Kilgore College Police Department, and instructed by the Advanced LAW Enforcement Rapid Response Training media (ALERRT). I must say that this class was undoubtedly one of the most organized and well instructed classes I have ever attended. The cadre of instructors was most impressive, and the information and practical participation which all of us in the class experienced was most informative and useful. It opened a new avenue as to why I have chosen to be a "sheepdog" and it gave me an updated goldmine of information in always being ready to apply what was learned. Although being retired from one law enforcement agency, it is so refreshing to now be working with another agency (in a college setting)where I have more training opportunities and fellowship in a law enforcement experience.
