For most of my life I have often heard comments such as Where is the next Malcolm or Who will be the next Martin Luther King or Where are our leaders. We have become so focused on looking for leadership outside of ourselves that we forget the same spirit, spark or life force in all of these great people resides inside of us, we just need to believe it and be courageous enough to stand for change. In addition, we look towards big change makers, change makers that are news worthy, change makers that go viral or do monumental things such as change the world, the universe or beyond - but how about the people whose efforts impact their local community, their block or even one life? Did Allah not say if any one saved a life, it would be as if he saved the life of the whole people what about the heroes and heroines next door? I watched a documentary called the Interrupters set in the South side of Chicago about of group of people who risks their lives to Interupt violence before it begins in some of the most volatile communities. The star of this film for all who watch it is Ameena Nuur Fort-Matthews a petit, Hijaab wearing Muslimah who goes into the midst of these conflicts zone speaking to hearts in a way only a Woman of God truly can. You will cry, feel empowered, laugh and leave with an appetite do more, human beings tend to function like that, we can inspire each life into other. When I watched the BET Black Girls Rocks award Ceremony and saw Sister Ameena receive an award for her efforts, I cried so much, I swear to God, she was receiving it for us, I never thought Id see a Hijabi women praising Allah on BET and we totally Rock too! Recently I heard that our sister as been diagnosed with Leukemia/Lymphoma and has been given a short period time to live and does not have the funds to pay for healthcare. Please do a few things for me, please watch the film, please check out her site and fund if you can, please share and please pray for your sister. Sometimes the leaders we are looking for are living next door, changing lives as we speak and sometimes our leaders need us to be a part of the movement towards making a change. And sometimes our leaders are female
