For my New York friends: Forty years ago, a LIQUEFIED NATURAL GAS tank owned by Texas Eastern--now Spectra Energy--exploded on Staten Island, and forty workers died. Shortly after, NYC Fire Chief John OHagan went to work to make New York State LNG-free. Mayor Ed Koch assisted in the effort. Now, the DEC seeks to lift our statewide ban on LNG. Whose lives are directly affected by this decision? New York States VOLUNTEER FIREFIGHTERS. What protections do the draft LNG regs offer them? Special training sessions, paid for by the gas industry. Heres the hitch: theres NO REQUIREMENT for attendance. Care to comment? thirtydaysoffrackingregs/oct20.php
