For my Valentine’s Day special, I’d like to share a beautiful love song by Techung, with beautiful footage of Wong Kar-wai’s movie “2046, edited by Tibetan videographerThupten Nyima. “Nying Gi Si Du” or Dew of the Heart (lyrics/music written by Techung and sung by himself) is about long distance love. The singer asks his lover to keep him deeply inside her heart wherever and whenever, and keeping in touch through loving notes to each other. Techung, born and raised in India, and now lives in California, has never been to his motherland Tibet. His political songs are banned there and China, but he says not his love songs. And his love songs are so gorgeous and I hope whoever inside Tibet and China listening to them will absorb the power of love and keep up the good fight. :) youtube/watch?v=L3RsrsSE0Vg I particularly think of the long distance love forced by dictators: jailed Tibetan filmmaker Dhondup Wangchen and his wife Llamo Tso; jailed Chinese Nobel Peace Prize winner Liu Xiaobo and his wife Liu Xia who’s been under house arrest; jailed legal activist) Xu Zhiyong and Cui Zheng (she gave birth to their daughter a few weeks ago); missing Uighur Ilham Tohti and his wife Guzaili Nuer, and all those political prisoners and their loved ones. My parents were kept apart by the government for 15 years while they were persecuted in different locations during the Cultural Revolution. Anyway, enjoy the V Day and the music! I’m addicted to this song. Techung and his band will perform with Philip Glass, Joe Walsh, Patti Smith and Iggy Pop at Carnegie Hall in New York on March 11. techung/files/TibetHouseConcert14-PR-FINAL.pdf Techung’s website, with quite a few great songs/videos: techung/
