For my comics friends. I got home from a chemo treatment today - TopicsExpress

For my comics friends. I got home from a chemo treatment today and flipped on the TV and made a standard stop at the Chiller Channel. Whats on is an episode of the Outer Limits from 1999 called The Tribunal and its about a nazi-hunter who can travel through time to get physical evidence on war criminals. When he returns to contemporary time he dresses all in black in a long cloth overcoat and wears a Bowler hat. Immediately I knew where his costume comes from. One of the greatest comic stories of all times The Master Race by Bernard Krigstein for EC Comics. And its a story about the hunting down of a Nazi war criminal. Its hard to accuse the The Tribunal of being a rip-off, I think it was an homage, but despite a very good cast, it wasnt anywhere near as good. Thats the danger of an homage when you evoke greatness, you invite comparison. You can read the The Master Race through the link in this message. cacb.wordpress/2008/12/03/ec-comics-master-race/ You can watch The Tribunal on Hulu. Krigsteins visual technique was decades ahead of its time and treated the subject matter with immense respect. If you havent read it before keep that in mind - with the exception of Will Eisner, no one was telling comics stories the way Krigstein did almost 60 years ago. And Escaped Nazi war criminals were a much more real issue and prompted much greater outrage when the story was published in 1955. I read it for the first time when I was in my late teens. It was a transformative event for me on many levels. Apparently it had the same effect on someone involved with the Outer Limits episode. More than forty years after its publication, like me, someone could not get Krigsteins imagery out of his head. My guess is it was writer Sam Eagan. imdb/name/nm0250735/bio?ref_=nm_ov_bio_sm
