For my fire service friends, I highly encourage each of you to watch this video which discusses the science of understanding and managing flow paths as it relates to a tragic incident the PGFD experienced 2 years ago. Looking back over my 24 years in the fire service, I am challenged to think of any other concept which has had such a profound impact on the way we do business. Recent studies in this area have made myth of many of the things we were taught as gospel while coming up through the ranks... Sadly, our culture of tradition has misguided us in some areas, because we have never bothered to examine the science behind why we do things the way we do... My thanks to Chief Marc Bashoor for his willingness and efforts to share his departments own bad experiences in the hopes of changing the culture of the fire service. He is a Chief that truly gets it, and is one of the few who still has an undeniable passion for the fire service!!!
