For my friends out there, I have some experience related advice. NEVER eat several slices of supreme pan pizza and then doze off. Why? Glad you asked. Had a busy day with taking Dad to the dentist in Elkin, rain and fog all the way. Developed a headache from eye strain most likely and the bacon egg and swiss cheese sandwich I had for breakfast and left me some time ago. Grabbed a pizza and headed up the mountain, greedily ate and decided to lay down for a bit to get rid of the headache. Next time, Ill take a pill, much as I loathe to ingest pills of any kind. I was sleepy so it didnt take long to doze off and when I did the fun began because that is when I dreamed I found myself back in Elkin at night and riding with my daughter and son-in-law. They had to do something and I had to go someplace different so I said, Let me out and Ill do what I gotta do and meet you back here. Simple enough except that I pass this spooky old house, big Victorian thing sitting just off the street and it starts to rain so I go up onto the porch of this thing and smoke a ciggarette to wait out the rain. Next thing I know, the front door creeps open and from somewhere deep inside the creepy old house I hear a faint female voice. Curious, I step through the doorway and flashlight handy, I flick it on. The door closes and I hear the voice, louder this time but cant make out the words. The place is furnished in early Victorian and the spiders and their descendants have been busy over the years. I hear thunder in the distance and soon a flash of lightning illuminates the interior of the mansion revealing more mysteries. I follow the faint sounds upstairs and the thunder gets worse. Down a long hall I go to a bedroom at the other end. I slowly push on the bedroom door and it opens with a creak. I step inside and cross to the window. Rain is beating in sheets against the glass and as I turn, another flash of lightning reveals the ghastly figure of a decaying female corpse reflected in the antique oval mirror, the eyes wide and exposed teeth grinning with menace. I decide :To hell with this and promptly head for the door. Once inside the hall, the lightning flashes increase, the thunder booms so loud it rattles the windows and the faint voice has become maniacal laughter. I reach the top of the stairs turn for a final look and see the old hag floating down the hall toward me. I give her the finger and proceed with haste down the stairs, thunder booming, deafening, the laughter has turned to wailing and as I open the front door to escape this house of hell all sound ceases. The rain has stopped. There is no thunder, no lightning, just the sound of the crickets. I step off the porch onto the brick walk to be greeted by a beautiful moon in the sky. All clouds have passed and the stars are twinkling. Arriving at the edge of the highway, a car approaches and stops in front of me. The drivers window comes down and I see the car occupied by teenage boys and girls. The driver says, Hey, man! You need a lift? I say, sure and when they ask what I was doing there I tell them I was just getting out of the rain, waiting it out on the porch. One of the girls says to me, Good thing you didnt go inside. That old place is haunted.
