For my friends overseas who (still) care – Latest updates of the movement: 1) The police has gradually chipped away occupied areas. So far two main roads are re-opened. 2) Protesters tried to take down another road, but were cracked down with violence. Evidence of police unnecessarily beating up defenceless protesters surfaced, causing public outrage. Seven policemen were sacked, but not yet charged with criminal offences. 3) Government announced the reopening of talks with the students, but adamantly refused to respond to the demand of protesters, and added that clearing of the protest sites is ‘unrelated’ to whether the talk happens or not. 4) Roads are re-opened, but traffic jam became more serious than before, as roads are jammed by vehicles misled by the government’s announcement that traffic has ‘returned to normal’. 5) Protesters vow to continue the movement with non-cooperative actions regardless.
