For my peeps who travel around Seattle a little FYI... Downtown will be bursting with excitement this Thursday afternoon as the world champion Seahawks and the 12th Man open their 2014 campaign with a 5:30pm kickoff. In addition, a free Pharrell Williams and Soundgarden concert will precede the game, with doors opening at 2:30pm. Of course, with all the excitement comes travel challenges, and Thursday afternoons commute promises to be one of the most difficult in recent memory. Commute Seattle urges commuters to plan ahead, leave early (or travel after the 5:30pm kickoff), and to expect serious congestion no matter your commute mode. While all transit service will be congested, there will be minimal rerouting and most services will operate a normal weekday schedule: 3 Metro routes will be detoured away from S. Jackson Street, #16, 66, and 99. Sounder Commuter Rail will operate a normal schedule, but passengers are asked to use the Jackson Street entrance and to avoid the Weller Street Overpass Link Light Rail will operate a normal schedule, but may add extra trains from Stadium Station to SeaTac after the game if there is significant crowding. Street closures will begin Wednesday night at 7pm and will last throughout Thursday. If youre traveling through Pioneer Square on Thursday, walking or biking are your best bets!
