For my second musical chapter in this biography of sorts I have chosen an instrumental piece which started my love of two things: Batman and Danny Elfman. I first saw Batman when my dad taped it off the TV at christmas and I immediately loved it. Possibly because he was just that, a man. He had no superpowers just the sheer will to avenge his parents murder. I was possibly about 7 when I first watched it and Michael Keaton will always be my favourite Batman and Jack Nicholson my favourite Joker; without him there would be no Heath Ledger that everybody seems to be so in love with and claims theyve always loved Batman. As for Danny Elfman, being self-taught makes his volume of work even more incredible. Edward Scissorhands is possibly his most moving and haunting work while The Nightmare Before Christmas remains one of my favourite films, purely for the sheer genius of its musical content. Batman and Batman Returns were made when Tim Burton seemed to be able to do no wrong. Alas, since his heinous remake of Planet Of The Apes he has gone nowhere but down...
