For my second visa trip, I took a VIP bus last night out of Hua - TopicsExpress

For my second visa trip, I took a VIP bus last night out of Hua Hin (Soi 96) to Hat Yai District (10 hours, 1120 baht) and then a minivan from Hat Yai to Penang, Malaysia (3 hours, 400 baht). This time, I used the Sadao/Bukit Kayu Hitam border crossing where youre stamped out of Thailand and into Malaysia. South Africa must have a history here, because as soon as they see my passport at any Thai border or ask my nationality, Im escorted into a different line or into an office where the boss must stamp my passport, but not before he enters my details into a system, takes my photo and photocopies my passport and departure card. Im not too concerned about it but it seems strange that certain nationalities get this special treatment. Anyway, the driver dropped me at Banana Guesthouse, where they offer a Thai visa service, which takes a day to process. I paid 80 ringgit (800 baht) for the room and 150 ringgit (1500 baht) for the visa and photos. Im settled into my room, which has wifi, thankfully, and now Im off to explore this little slice of Malaysia. These visa runs are expensive but at least Im seeing another country! Two months ago, I hadnt ever left my own country but now Ive been in three different ones! My gratitude knows no bounds. Im really happy and loving my life at the moment. This is just the beginning :)
